Bates-numbered transcript page
Bates ID and page count on every page

01

Matches your production

Set the Bates prefix and start number, the exhibit label, the time zone, and US Letter or A4. Every page gets "Page X of Y" and a Bates ID.

02

Built for review

Search the thread, star the key messages, and limit it to the relevant dates. Starred messages are highlighted and listed on an index page with page numbers.

03

Documented source

The cover lists the source file, its SHA-256 fingerprint, the time zone and the message count, so opposing counsel can see exactly what was used.

Confidentiality

Client data stays on your machine.

TextTranscript runs entirely in the browser. The client's backup is read locally and the PDF is generated locally. Nothing is sent to our servers, and the site's Content Security Policy blocks the app from sending data anywhere except the payment checkout.

That makes it simpler to use under confidentiality obligations than tools that upload message histories to a cloud service. As always, follow your firm's own data-handling policies.

Good to know

What it is, and what it isn't.

Is this a forensic extraction?

No. TextTranscript formats the messages stored in a standard iPhone backup or an Android SMS backup. If authenticity will be seriously contested, a forensic examiner using tools such as Cellebrite or Magnet AXIOM may be more appropriate. Many matters, such as small claims, family court and pre-litigation demand letters, don't need that level of extraction.

Which sources are supported?

Unencrypted iPhone backups from Finder, iTunes or the Apple Devices app; sms.db and Mac chat.db files; and Android XML backups from SMS Backup & Restore. WhatsApp isn't supported yet.

What gets left out?

Tapback reactions and automatic system events (such as "named the conversation"). Message text is never edited. Videos and other files are listed by file name.

Do you offer office pricing?

The Court Pack ($29) covers every conversation for 30 days on one computer. If your office makes transcripts regularly, email hello@texttranscript.com and tell us roughly how many you make a month.
