What does TextTranscript do?
It turns the text messages in a phone backup into a PDF. You choose a conversation and dates, and you get every message in order with the date, time, sender and phone number, with page numbers and Bates IDs. There's also a Memory style that shows messages as chat bubbles.
Are my messages uploaded?
No. The backup is read in your browser and the PDF is made on your computer. We never receive your messages, contacts or photos. The site's security policy blocks the app from sending data anywhere except the payment checkout.
Do I need a Mac?
No. Back up the iPhone on Windows with Apple's free Apple Devices app or iTunes, then open the backup in Chrome or Edge.
Which browsers work?
Chrome and Edge on Windows or Mac work best, because they can open a backup folder directly. Other browsers can still open a single sms.db or Android .xml file.
Can I use it on my phone?
Not for iPhone backups. The backup lives on your computer, so the app needs a computer. Android users need to copy the backup file to a computer too.
Will the court accept the PDF?
It depends on your court. Many courts accept printed messages that show the date, time and sender, supported by your testimony or a declaration. We can't promise acceptance, and we don't give legal advice. Ask a lawyer if the messages will be disputed.
My backup is encrypted. What do I do?
Encrypted backups can't be read yet. Untick "Encrypt local backup" in the Apple Devices app, iTunes or Finder (you'll need the backup password), make a new backup, and open that one.
Why are some messages missing?
If Messages in iCloud is on, older messages may be stored only in iCloud. Turn it off on the iPhone so the messages download, then make a new backup. Messages deleted before the backup won't appear.
Are photos included?
Yes, including iPhone HEIC photos. Chats with many photos take longer. You can turn photos off for a text-only PDF. Videos and other files are listed by name.
Does it show emoji?
Yes, in black and white. A few combined emoji, like family groups, show as separate figures, and any emoji that can't be drawn is marked [emoji] so nothing silently disappears.
Does it work with WhatsApp?
Not yet. Android SMS and MMS work, using a backup from SMS Backup & Restore.
How much does it cost?
The preview is free (first 50 messages, watermarked). A full conversation is $12. The Court Pack is $29 for every conversation for 30 days plus a declaration template. One-time payments, no subscription.
